How to rent a car and who can rent it?

Each car rental company has its own rules and the conditions of individual companies can differ quite significantly from each other. We at AVIS Slovakia strive to make our offer available to everyone, to which we adjust not only the pricing policy, but also the rental conditions.

We have prepared for you a summary of the most frequently asked questions and answers related to car rental at the AVIS car rental.

Read the answers to the following questions below

What are the conditions for the landlord and the driver?

Every person who wants to drive a car from AVIS must present a valid driver's and ID card and be able to drive a motor vehicle in accordance with applicable laws at the time of taking over the vehicle and during its operation.

Minimum driver age is 25 years.

In case of non-fulfillment of the required age for an individual category, the lessee can apply for a special driving permit for a fee based on valid price list of fees.

Can a student rent a car in AVIS?

We at AVIS do not verify or take into account whether the customer is a student, employee or self-employed person, so anyone can rent a vehicle.

What will I need to rent equipment?

To equip a car rental in AVIS car rental you will need the following:

  • ID card;
  • driving licence;
  • a list of any additional drivers;
  • pay a refundable deposit (the amount of the deposit differs from the vehicle category and lenght of rental)
  • provide a credit or debit card before renting

Can a rented car be driven by a second driver?

Yes, a rented car from AVIS can also be driven by a second driver, but we must know about it in advance. The so-called "additional driver per rental day" is charged at € 9.00 and for 7 or more rental days the fee is € 45.00. We remind you that the second driver also means the wife, husband or partner of the tenant. Of course, the second driver must also meet the age limit for driving a given category of vehicle in the sense of the above question and answer.

The vehicle may only be driven by drivers specified in the lease agreement. You will be required to ensure that no other person drives the vehicle.

Can I go abroad with a rented car?

Yes, you can, but please note that the motorway token in the price is valid only for Slovak motorways.
Entry is permitted to EFTA countries (Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Iceland), the United Kingdom and the European Union, with the exception of Bulgaria and Romania. Entry to Bulgaria and Romania is expressly prohibited. The expressly prohibited countries include, among others, Albania, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.

In what condition will I take over the car?

Cars from AVIS are delivered in first-class technical condition, clean on the outside and inside and with a full tank. When taking over the vehicle, you have the opportunity to inspect it in detail and have any deficiencies recorded in the take-over report. If you notice such a defect, we recommend that you point it out when you pick up the vehicle, even if it is only a small thing.

In what condition should I hand over the car?

It is important for us that handing over the vehicle is not stressful for you, so we only require its technical condition corresponding to the condition at the time of collection and a refilled tank. The tank needs to be full. If you do not have the opportunity to fund, AVIS staff will do it for you. In this case, we charge 2.00€ for each liter of fuel and a flat fee of € 20.00.

What to do if I crash a rented vehicle?

If a situation arises where you crash with a rented vehicle, the procedure is the same as in the case of an accident on your own vehicle, except that in addition to the police and possibly other rescue services, you also contact the AVIS car rental company. Of course, each accident must be documented with the appropriate forms, which is part of the equipment of each of our vehicles, and the corresponding photo documentation must be made. All our vehicles are insured against accidents and have UGS with coverage of up to 5 million euros.

In the event that the amount for repairing any damage to the vehicle exceeds the amount of € 6,600, the lessee will be charged a co-payment of 15% of the damage caused.

What to do if a car breakdown occurs during car rental?

Whatever happens to the vehicle during the rental, be sure to contact AVIS and our staff will always advise you on what to do next. There are disorders that cannot be predicted and influenced; for others, the amount for which you will be responsible will be limited to the co-participation agreed in the contract.

The rental price does not include refills and fluids that may need to be replenished during the rental of the vehicle. These are windscreen washer water, radiator / coolant water, engine oil and, in the case of diesel engines, AdBlue.

What if I damage the car during the rental through my own fault?

Such situations happen and there is no need to worry about drastic consequences. It is best to inform the accepting worker about such damage or, in the event of more serious damage, to contact AVIS as soon as this damage occurs to the vehicle. AVIS staff will inform you of the next steps.

What should I do if I commit a traffic offense during the rental?

As a customer-tenant, you are responsible for all traffic violations, including parking violations and speeding while the vehicle is in your possession. In addition to the fine, you may be charged an administration fee. The method of solving and billing traffic offenses depends on the type of fine and the country where the offense occurred. You are also responsible for paying fees for the use of toll road sections abroad.

Fines can be resolved in a so-called block proceeding, where you receive the fine directly on the spot from a police officer, or on the basis of strict liability by delivering the fine to the AVIS car rental company, which will then require you to reimburse it.
